I think there was a point where the default was microservices+massive cloud infrastructure and it was a massive disservice to everyone. Everyone 'built to scale' and it's also easy to assume your next project will service a few thousand requests per second eventually and you'd love to just change the replica count in k8 instead of take the day to spin up some new machines and balance them when that time comes.
