I grew up in the 80s and my dad definitely had several of these. He was a regular c-suite kind of guy. Nothing really secretive, but they didn’t have databases back then, so they had to travel with sensitive documents, and they didn’t want people to open the case if they left it by mistake somewhere. Obviously it makes little sense today if you’re not a potential NSA target.
