This is why it's worth blocking all accounts paying for a checkmark. They're not there to provide insight, it's just a way to promote things for a few dollars a month.

- pwdisswordfishc 3y agoBetter yet: stop reading Twitter
- mattl 3y agoI've all but moved to Mastodon and Bluesky, but there is some interesting stuff still posted on Twitter.
- jimmygrapes 3y agoMaybe the GP was just being blithe/snarky about Twitter specifically, but I choose to interpret it a little more: don't just stop using Twitter, but stop using anything even similar. For now you might get some subjectively better signal to noise ratio out of Mastodon or Bluesky or some other thing, but ultimately the problem is not the medium so much as the underlying mentality. Users seeking "first to report" news in short, easily consumable bits leads almost inevitably to such things being supplied to meet that demand, reality be damned. In other words, don't just eschew Twitter; reconsider the medium entirely.
- mattl 3y agoI am arguably a co-founder of Mastodon (actually the precursor GNU social) so no, it’s hard to do that.
