Wow, that's a pretty dishonest way to defend Uber by implying that this is term is only (or even mainly) used to point out racism. People should be ashamed of this revisionist nonsense, but that's too much to expect.
- shadowgovt 3y agoHow is the term mainly used?
- batch12 3y agoThe sibling comment's response is a good answer to this if you don't actually know. If this is true, I envy your detachment from hateful discourse.

- prepend 3y agoThis is not the main usage. Entitled people in general are entitled about everything. Most Karen memes I see are about wanting to talk to a manager over some perceived slight like not enough croutons on their $18 salad. That Karen’s also do racist stuff is not the main point of karening.
- shadowgovt 3y agoAh, but you may have overlooked the intersection of racism and classism in the United States. It's not shown in the memes, but the person Karen is screaming at in those memes is usually not white.
- prepend 3y agoI didn’t overlook, I disagree it’s relevant here. The don’t think the color of the person Karen is screaming at is the important part. The important part is that Karen is entitled and is upset that things aren’t the way she likes. I don’t track my meme views, but I expect I’ve seen the meme thousands of times and experienced Karen IRL dozens of times and it’s usually directed toward a person of the same race. For IRL I think it depends on where it occurs (ie, Karens in white areas are more likely to scream at whites). This is pretty minor, but I think it’s important to accurately assign racism where it exists. If everything is racist, then it’s not as important and it’s harder to differentiate racism that is a much higher priority to stop.
- chucksta 3y agoHow in the world do you know what color they are if they aren't shown. Hell of a leap
- George83728 3y ago> the person Karen is screaming at in those memes is usually not white. That seems like an extremely dubious claim. Do you have any racial statistics for customer-facing service sector workers to back that up? In my experience, businesses in most American communities tend to hire young relatively attractive white people for these roles (there is an ageism and racism angle to their hiring, but that's beyond the point being discussed here.)
