It's like neither of those things. Consciousness isn't even a real thing. It's an awkwardly ill-defined idea we made up that has no basis in science, like gender, or reality. It's like asking if Mickey Mouse is more like the sea or a watermelon.
- simonh 3y agoConsciousness is simply the awareness of being a person, and of having experiences. Do you not have that? I mean you don’t always have it, sometimes you are asleep or maybe sedated, but right now (whenever that is for you) as you are reading this?
- throwaway892238 3y agoActually it's not, the definition varies and is difficult to interpret. But also, how do you know you're asleep or awake? How do you know you're even a real person and not a simulation? Can a simulation be conscious? Etc.
