The only competitive multiplayer game I play lately is R6 and that game 100% has what the author is talking about, casual mode is great when you're waiting for the last member of your group to finish up whatever it is they're doing that's making them run late to game night.
The issue with the concept as applied to Dota is that in casual mode it's very common for a player to ragequit the first time they die. This doesn't matter in R6 because it's a game that takes place in 5 rounds, so if a player leaves in the middle of round 1, they'll just get backfilled, and in R6 rounds are separate entities that don't impact each other. Dota2 the game is one continuous thread, if someone rage quits because they failed a gank at 5 minutes, then their team is just going to be losing for the rest of the game unless they get backfilled, and there are precious few people who are going to want to be backfilled into an existing character on a team that is almost 100% assuredly losing.
I think if you're getting interrupted so often that you need to keep dropping your games to the point you get low pri'd, maybe you just need to choose a different game until stuff calms down a bit? You don't even need to leave the Dota2 client, it literally has a custom game arcade!
