Another comment along these lines was [killed], but I'll attempt to take a more diplomatic approach. Nginx is a Russian (in its inception) product. The reason one should not be worried about this (as one is worried about Kaspersky products) is that Nginx is open source. Do I have this right?

I think the consensus is that your initial statement even with the caveat is incorrect. People do not think that Nginx is a Russian product.

today nginx is american product (owned by F5 Corp).
