I guess I’m confused. I thought the web was already decentralized. Of course individual websites aren’t, but the web itself certainly is.

- sanity31415 3y agoIn theory you are right, but in practice a handful of companies control the services everyone uses and the infrastructure behind it. The fundamental problem is that the web is client-server, which inherently leads to concentration of power - and this is what we've seen over the past few decades. Freenet replaces the client-server web with something entirely decentralized. More detailed explanation at [1].
