Self-Checkout Is and Has Always Been the Worst
- josephcsible 3y agoAs a consumer, I'd much rather spend 2 minutes waiting in line and then 1 minute using a self-checkout than spend 5 minutes waiting in line and then 30 seconds getting checked out by a cashier.

I dig not being inine lottery, where one person being extremely slow will hold up the whole pipeline; self checkout lines have such parallelism at the execution unit layer, so there's never pipeline stalls. But my gods. The sound is infernal! A smaller installation is half dozen machines, and them all loudly broadcasting each purchase price & savings aggregates to a wretched din. This is bedlam. It's monstrously anti-social behavior. These machine's speakers deserve/need some good knifings. Who will be our hero?
