A Tesla 'suddenly and automatically' took off, forcing driver to crash it
- Nextgrid 3y agoAn easy fix for this would be to have a lever or handle that physically disconnects the high-voltage supply. Most industrial machinery has a big emergency stop button that does just that, maybe electric cars should have the same?
- jfengel 3y ago"Sudden unintended acceleration" is common enough to have its own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_unintended_acceleration https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_unintended_acceleration "The NHTSA estimates 16,000 accidents per year in the United States occur when drivers intend to apply the brake but mistakenly apply the accelerator." There are plenty of other possible reasons, some of which could apply to a Tesla. But the most common explanation seems to be "you thought you weren't pressing the accelerator but you were". I'd consider that the most likely explanation ahead of more exotic ones like an electrical short or computer malfunction.
