For both nations sakes it's time they put the past behind them. Luckily the younger generations seem to be less inclined towards the old grudges than their predecessors.
- bmitc 3y agoThis kind of seems to imply both sides had an equal part in the conflicts when that wasn't the case. Is it really a grudge for China and Korea to dislike Japan for what it did to them when Japan and largely the world act like it never happened? It is strange to me how much of an historical pass Japan has gotten compared to Germany. I agree it's nice to eventually move on, but it's really tough when your agressor never even acknowledged its agression.
- dukeyukey 3y agoThese are just the words of someone with no real connection to East Asia, but I feel Japanese aggression and it's treatment of of China and Korea are brought up constantly? There's even a Wikipedia page (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_apology_statements_issued_by_Japan https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_apology_statemen...) devoted to Japanese war apologies. Like at some point you need to acknowledge that the past is the past. Like look at Germany and Poland, or the UK and Ireland. You can acknowledge and keep in mind historical wrongs while building a better future together.
- MichaelZuo 3y agoThe parent has a point, if you look closely one of the apologies to South Korea was actually close to being 'revised', i.e. retracted, not that long ago.
- bmitc 3y ago> These are just the words of someone with no real connection to East Asia Wrong. Of course, I may be wrong or you may think I'm wrong, but the past really stings for some, and I have heard this first hand. And many view Japan's apologies as backhanded.
- neom 3y agoI would generally agree except that Japan continues to re-write history. https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2023/05/113_348001.html https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2023/05/113_348001.h... https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/03/28/national/japan-south-korea-textbook-protests/ https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/03/28/national/japan-...
