Wow! That could have been me!
During the 2008 post-election protests and the beginning of the green movement, I aggregated all the images coming out of Iran into my personal
flickr account. BIG-STUPID-MISTAKE! These were brutal, news breaking images .
Little did I know people and news organizations around the world were including these images in their articles, blogs, tweets etc and attributing me, and sometimes printing my full name as the original photographer.
If you do a google search of my full name, you still come up with results like that (luckily not in the first page). I've tried unsuccessfully to get them removed.
Seeing what is happening to Malekpour, I don't think it's safe to go back. Not anytime soon
- ocdprogrammer 15y agoI'm sorry, but you, him and even I, we are all guilty (there are high chances I watched some porn uploaded using his software). The only thing we can do is to stay out of Iran. If you don't stay out, it's like asking for punishment. And btw, i will never put a foot in USA also, cause who on earth knows what NSA may have on me.
- PedroCandeias 15y agoAnd there are still people arguing that we should no longer go by anything other than our real names online (facebook I'm looking at you).
- blake8086 15y agoI think Facebook is arguing that you should no longer go by anything other than your real name on Facebook.
- rbanffy 15y agoNo. We need to get rid of governments and courts like these. If we mask the problem we'll never solve it, and as long as governments and laws like these exist, we aren't safe.
- tomjen3 15y agoThe reason he is scheduled for execution is that he is not a Canadian citizen yet. Had he been, Iran would just have expelled him.
- xer0x 15y agoTomjen3 that's the reason the Canadian gov't isn't able to get him out of Iran. Hopefully Iran doesn't execute people for being in Canada. Although Saeed's case is so nonsensical that it almost seems that way.
- DrJokepu 15y agoThat's not the case. Forfeiting Iranian citizenship is a fairly complicated process that ultimately requires permission from the uppermost levels of the Iranian Government as well as completing your national service. As long as he has Iranian citizenship, it's irrelevant whether he has a Canadian passport or not, it's a basic rule of international law that your country cannot (officially) provide you diplomatic assistance in another country where you're also a citizen.
- faramarz 15y agoI wouldn't bet on it. At least not before imprisonment, torture etc... Being a Canadian citizen might bring more international attention.. but when you're born in Iran, have Social Security number and are required to travel to Iran with your Iranian Passport and not your Canadian passport.. they will do whatever they want.
- jakeonthemove 15y agoIt's like the Soviet Union there! crazy stuff...
- borism 15y agowhat do you know about Soviet Union?
- jakeonthemove 15y agoYou'd be surprised... but I agree that the comment was useless - I just posted it right after my other comment.
