US cities don't seem to offer much to endear their citizens to them. They are insanely over priced and about as fun to live in as a trash can. You can't get anywhere in them because cars are first class citizens and public transit is unbearably awful. The restaurants are all being destroyed by the commercial real estate market. Downtown is empty after 6PM because the only people who go there are working in stupid beige offices and they flee to suburbia at night.
* I remember visiting Los Angeles for Comic Con and the downtown was bleak. Restaurants closed at 8PM and the sidewalks were empty and noisy. It was just faceless office building and dead air. To get to anywhere interesting you needed to take the metro, and the trains stopped at 11PM...
* Austin is a freeway pretending to be a city... Their downtown is mostly just roads and cars.
* Phoenix wasn't much better, the roads were insanely wide and walking felt like taking your life into your own hands. People would make sweeping right turns across the sidewalk entrances to shopping centers at 35+ mph. You were either quick or dead.
* Little Rock barely had room for anything but cars. The sidewalks were super narrow and loud from all the people fighting over street parking spots. Riding my bike there was okay, but dangerous as all heck.
