Hermanson cautioned that “a single year doesn’t really mean anything.” Scientists usually use 30-year averages. I know the word "clickbait" is way too loosely thrown around on HN, but man if this doesn't meet the bar. It's the 1.5C temp increase that's being talked about, it will be due to El Niño, and it will only be for a year (maybe two). As for the "clickbait" part, I refer you to the above quote. Oh, we're probably well on our way to hitting a key threshold, but that isn't what's discussed in TFA.
