Show HN: Do not chat with your pdfs alone. Let others join the fun too
- alokjnv10 3y agoHello HackerNews. I'm Alok. I love chatgpt and it makes my life so much easier. I was impressed by its power and capabilities, so being a developer, i decided to make a tool around it. I shared my tool on this subreddit and people really liked it. Lots of people gave me feedback on what things to improve. Many people wanted to share the chatbot with their friends and team members. Without them having to reupload all the pdfs. So i have now add this functionality and now you can share your chatbot with your friends and team members and let them join the fun (i mean chat)! I would love if you try it out and let me klnow what you think about it. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

- bartislartfast 3y ago> Do not chat with your pdfs alone. Let others join the fun too Send this headline back in time five years and you would utterly bewilder people.
- alokjnv10 3y agohaha agree. it would become obsolete by then.
- dotcoma 3y agoNot sure that’s what he meant. Are people really chatting with pdf files? In group, now? Sounds like great fun…
- bartislartfast 3y agoyeah I just meant chatting to a PDF file seems like such an odd concept. Kind of like dancing with spreadsheet
- nuancebydefault 3y agoIt is a very nice idea. Suppose at work you have a large pdf that explains some concepts you need for the sw you need to develop. Since it is a big pdf, you can't spend the time to completely read it to find the info you need. So you just ask the pdf something like - which is the formula i need to normalize my data, given inputs x and y. Then it provides an answer and you then can go into more details by asking more questions around that answer. You could also ask for pseudo code in any language. Seems to me a much faster way of getting what you need to do the job. The caveat is that you need to upload the document which has a big chance of containing confidential info.
- dotcoma 3y agoAnd the same is going to happen for the web, or “all the world’s information”, as they used to say in Mountain View before they started focusing too much on all the information about their users? I am a bit sceptic. Can Google upload all the world’s information to an “AI reader” and can this reader go through all the information about everything in the world and spit back an answer in a fraction of a second?
- alokjnv10 3y agothats a great usecase. thanks for sharing
- quickthrower2 3y agoPDF bots seem to be popping up alot but why not support docx, xls etc.
- alokjnv10 3y agoactually pdf version is the most popular one. i will add .docx once there is some demand. Do you like this tool?
- gloyoyo 3y agoOf Course , add .docx. :)
- quickthrower2 3y agoAnd the good think about supporting PDF first is you can just print other things into it! Probably a JS library to do it I imagine.
- alokjnv10 3y agoyes agree
- alokjnv10 3y agook. will do it.
- meghan_rain 3y agoWarning: Yet another vectorize-and-prompt-as-a-service website that simply forwards the entirety of your data to OpenAI.
- june_twenty 3y ago"Is my data secure here? Your data security is our top priority. Your personal data is maintained and secured in accordance with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)." How is this true if you use gpt4 in the background? Also, is there sound on that video? One of my browser extensions must be blocking it. I am interested in making something similar - how did you record it?
- alokjnv10 3y agoi dont think openai shares user data. i used tella.tv to record it
- june_twenty 3y agoBut you are the one sending user information to OpenAI. Where does it store that data? I assume in the USA rather than in Europe. How does it use it? How long does it retain it?
- jrpt 3y agoIt doesn't seem any better than the alternatives. I happen to prefer Docalysis.com ;)
- alokjnv10 3y agoit looks like a good tool too. Why dont you compare which one gives best answers
