Epstein Assisted Noam Chomsky, Botstein with Financial Transactions

- steve_adams_86 3y ago> Chomsky said he participated in the meetings despite knowing Epstein was a convicted sex offender because he knew he had served his sentence and “according U.S. laws and norms, that yields a clean slate.” I wonder if it’s also worth considering that a lot of people had no idea what Epstein had really been up to. I personally wouldn’t do business with a guy who served time for trying to prostitute a minor, though. I don’t think there’s a clean slate after that, or that a jail sentence would resolve issues in a person capable of that kind of behaviour. I have no idea what their interactions were like or what the context was either. Who knows. I’ve certainly interacted with people I didn’t feel comfortable with at times, usually because circumstances made it difficult not to.
- panick21_ 3y agoIts funny how all of a sudden Chomsky takes U.S. laws as the highest authority. How the turns have tabled.
- johnthescott 3y agoexcellent observation. does this imply chomsky was aware of the sins of epstein?
- panick21_ 3y agoI mean he knew that he committed a very serious crime and at the very least didn't follow up before working with him.
- laratied 3y agoI can't stand Chomsky's politics but that doesn't change the fact what he is saying is correct. It is a really bad look for someone with Chomsky's reputation but to go beyond that is witch hunting. Pretty straight forward witch hunting.
- prepend 3y agoI don’t think his statement says they are the highest authority but sounds more like the minimum authority for criminals being punished for their crime.
- NickC25 3y agoThis got flagged earlier. Hope this post stays up. Anyone and everyone in Epstein's orbit needs to come clean. I don't care about wealth, political affiliation, anything. If they were involved in any way, shape or form, and had the ability to whistleblow on a large scale (and had the clout and eyeballs to back it up) , and didn't, they need to go down, as well as publicly name their co-conspirators. Anything else is just more evidence that we live in a society where certain people are untouchable no matter how blatant and nefarious their actions are.
- bsder 3y agoWhile I agree with the people around Epstein need to come clean, I'm also going to point out that most of us don't check whether any of the people we hang out with are felons or sex offenders. Even moreso, if you hang out with rock musicians, it's probably guaranteed that you know people in both categories... (I seem to remember some North American rock event that had to leave almost 25% of the bands at the US border because they weren't allowed to enter Canada due to various legal convictions.) In addition, one would naturally assume that someone guilty of all the crap Epstein was wouldn't be walking around free. The fact that Epstein was free was almost certainly because he was an intelligence asset.
- pfannkuchen 3y ago> due to various legal convictions Wouldn’t this have been like 100% for drug possession charges? Which most people are generally and understandably not too morally upset about, especially if it’s drugs like marijuana or cocaine? Rock musicians are notorious for that sort of illegal behavior, certainly, but not for anything worse AFAIK? Unless you’re referring to violent gang activity, though that is normally reserved for a couple other genres…
- Affric 3y agoTangentially related and not many convictions but many rock musicians have famously slept with children.
- ThinkBeat 3y agoI am not good on financial issues. The scheme concocted for Botstein I can understand why "an Epstein" was involved Why does one need help from "an Epstein" just to transfer money? Like Chomsky needed? Can't you just contact a bank and they will handle it?
