This is a fun read. But I don't find LaTeX to be slow, personally. I'm working on a math text. 449 pages with hundreds of equations, hundreds of graphics, you get the idea, and on reading this article I timed a compile. On my 2016 laptop it took 20 real seconds. Anyway, gripe aside, interesting read.
