Not so side question, but these policemen were seemingly given 3/4/5 doses of Narcan by the paramedics on site or in the hospital, how is it decided to administer this and how are doses calculated?
Narcan sounds not like being innocuous, isn't it a risk giving it to someone that isn't actually in overdose of opioids?
- navjack27 3y agoI would more be guessing that the narcan is being administered by fellow police officers. There's a lot of blind leading the blind out there.
- jaclaz 3y agoAhh, now I see, but why 3, 4 or 5 doses? I seem to remember having read a document about nasal naloxone where it was suggested one dose, and if there was no response in a few minutes, a second one. And now that you gave me the lead I found a 2015 article that hints how it may be used without a correct diagnosis: https://www.ems1.com/drugs/articles/is-police-use-of-naloxone-really-saving-lives-I1Gj28PrqmNGMVDd/ https://www.ems1.com/drugs/articles/is-police-use-of-naloxon... Now it makes sense.
