NYC Central Business District Tolling Program
- warrenm 3y ago>While traffic dropped to just 10% of normal levels in 2020 due to the pandemic, it has since rebounded to over 90% of pre-pandemic levels, far higher than the mass transit ridership rebound. Maybe ... that's because NYC has more-or-less stopped policing public transit, and people don't want to use sketchy buses when they can drive themselves? Perhaps the answer is not "make drivers pay tolls", but rather "improve public transit safety" and "reduce public transit cost"
- yuppie_scum 3y agoYour second two suggestions there don’t just magically happen for free. The idea is that the funding from the driver tolls will fund transit.
- beardyw 3y agoExperience in central London was that the Congestion Charge was so successful in reducing traffic that revenues were much less than was hoped!
- warrenm 3y ago>The idea is that the funding from the driver tolls will fund transit. Except ... that's not how economics works, mate :) Running empty buses is stupid - regardless of how many tolls are collected
