Is this the unit of measurement space.com readers are most familiar with?
- birdyrooster 3y agoIs this a rhetorical question?
- EamonnMR 3y agoPlease give all lengths in Rhode Islands.
- dylan604 3y agoRhode Islands are only used when you want to show how small something is. It's a like the centimeter. It looks like a lot, but really, it's not when compared to a useful measurement ;-)
- CydeWeys 3y agoSorry, I hate to be a pedant here, but the correct pluralization is Rhodes Island.
- TheSpiceIsLife 3y agoOne Rhodes Island is roughly 43,000 Attorney Generals ;)
- ummonk 3y agoNo that's only if you use the metric system like the Greeks.
- johndunne 3y agoI’d say the article contains the same human generated content as 2 Mcdonald’s Big Macs.
- nickpeterson 3y agoWhat an outrageous exaggeration. This article has at most the human content of one Taco Bell Doritos locos taco.
- mulmen 3y agoThat’s an enormous amount of effort: https://www.fastcompany.com/3008346/deep-inside-taco-bells-doritos-locos-taco https://www.fastcompany.com/3008346/deep-inside-taco-bells-d....

- bagels 3y agoPretty absurd. I think they were making a vague 'star' reference. I have no idea how long that is.
- pc86 3y agoA little more than half the length of 1.3 Walks of Fame.
- JumpCrisscross 3y agoMight it be a social media hack to encourage sharing?
- ajsnigrutin 3y agoAmericans will use any unit of measurement, as long as it's not metric! (yes, yes, shamelessly stolen from: https://old.reddit.com/r/BrandNewSentence/comments/tv9yv6/a_sinkhole_roughly_the_size_of_six_to_seven/ https://old.reddit.com/r/BrandNewSentence/comments/tv9yv6/a_... )
- blululu 3y agoAstronomical Units and Lightyears do just fine. Maybe the rest of the world will try them someday though, I guess terameters and petameters are useful if you need to know how many microns it is to Jupiter.
- Someone 3y agoA light year is 9.46×10^¹⁵m. I think rounding that to 10¹⁶m (ten petameter) is fine for armchair astronomers. ‘Real’ astronomers like to use the parsec, too (about 4.2 light years, IIRC)
- AA-BA-94-2A-56 3y agoAU is also very easy for me to understand as a lay person.
- ezequiel-garzon 3y agoThanks, that's awesome! Adding the original tweet: https://twitter.com/ralphium/status/1160242266902061056 https://twitter.com/ralphium/status/1160242266902061056

- spuz 3y agoI know this sounds crazy but it kind of makes sense to me. It's a large boulder in the context of things you might find obstructing the road, but it's a small boulder in the context of all boulders. Still pretty hilarious to read.
- labster 3y agoVolumes should be given in units of cubic acres.
