Dedollarization Is Not a Thing
- WaitWaitWha 3y agoFor me this is interesting from a technologist's perspective as much of the 'things' start out in non-US currency based countries.
- 908B64B197 3y agoThe beauty of the US dollar is it's always worth a US dollar... It's strength is a measure of much foreigners trust the US economy and it's political and judicial system. What drives the demand for the dollar is the will of people to invest money in American securities and on the American capital market. I don't see it ending anytime soon. Chinese investors invest on the Chinese market in Yuans. Rich Chinese investors invest on the US market with US dollars.
- _8j50 3y agoThe dollar isn't popular because people like america or have confidence american economy is superior to china or europe. They want the dollar because they can use it to exchange currency and goods with any country. By want, I mean overall demand of the dollar not T bonds or whatever. If Yuan/RMB was most in demand, that would mean it is easier to accept Yuan in exchange for an export of some sort to $randomcountry and then use Yuan to buy stuff from india, vietnam,UK,Canada,etc... who would want to accept Yuan for the stuff I want to buy from them. The perceived acceptability of the currency is very important, at least as much as how strong the economy behind it is.
- prottog 3y agoThe USD is the cleanest shirt in a pile of dirty laundry. Until another one emerges that is backed by both a significant military as well as a political and economic system that respects private property and rule of law, it will remain as such.
