Vietnam is very much it's own thing with a strained relationship with China, they're not a vassal state.
I think in retrospect, Communism was never as post nationalist as people pretended at the time, and was just "the available motivating ideology". Kind of like how all revolutionaries were Islamic State for a few years.
- NhanH 3y agoChina is by far the most hated country among the Vietnamese population. Not rationally, mind you, and the government's propaganda tends to avoid anything about Vietnam - China relation. So it's an odd situation, but that is how thing is.
