When I was a CS student 10 years ago I screened this movie during our institute's bi-semesterly movie night. The other students were quite baffled that the movie just ... ends. Without a happy end. Forbin just loses.
It's not uncommon for sci-fi movies of that era to not have a happy end. But having the bad guy straight up "win" is still quite rare.
- arethuza 3y agoI've probably biased as I am a big fan of the Culture novels, but is Colossus really the "bad guy": "Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man: self-interest."
