Larry Page Missing as Google Founder Faces Jeffrey Epstein Lawsuit
- mikece 3y agoLarry Page didn't kill himself.

- cs702 3y agoIn places like, say, China and Russia, when billionaires can't be found, one automatically assumes it's because they were surreptitiously taken away by government agents -- after saying or doing something against the wishes of government leaders. In the US, when billionaires can't be found, one automatically assumes it's because they themselves don't want to be found -- after getting caught doing or being involved in something naughty which they know they shouldn't have done. I sincerely hope this isn't the case with Page.
- futhey 3y agoIf you believe the government is an omnipotent institution then everything is a conspiracy, CIA, etc. This used to be more true than today. So do we collectively perceive US institutions as weaker?
- klipt 3y agoUS institutions are more constrained by notions of due process and human rights than comparable Russian or Chinese institutions. Which is probably a good thing for Americans, in general.
- notlukesky 3y agoDue process and “human rights” do not apply when the government has resolve or perceives the transgression to be beyond the pale. The law or constitution does not matter then as well. Just ask Eugene Debs. Or see Julian Assange. Or Korematsu. Or Joseph Nacchio who refused to violate the law and do illegal surveillance on US citizens for the government without a court order. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debs_v._United_States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debs_v._United_States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korematsu_v._United_States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korematsu_v._United_States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Assange https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Assange https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Nacchio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Nacchio
- riku_iki 3y ago> Eugene Debs. Or see Julian Assange. Or Korematsu. Or Joseph Nacchio they didn't have billions to hire army of lawyers and make huge noise in media. Larry Page has those billions, so law and constitution actually protects him.
- ALittleLight 3y agoI don't think that's even a little bit true. Consider CIA "black sites" where prisoners are brutally tortured at the government's behest, nominally legal because we have contractors in some other country conduct the torture rather than our own agents. Or, widespread warrantless surveillance of American citizens that the head of the intelligence community will brazenly lie about to Congress without consequences. If the government doesn't particularly care about an issue, like did Page rape children, then it will abide by the law. If the government does care, then the law doesn't matter. The government might take some efforts to conceal their crimes, but they don't even try very hard to do that, because it doesn't matter when their wrongdoing is exposed.
- SolarNet 3y ago> I don't think that's even a little bit true. Not even a little bit? The comparisons here are quite stark. Russia's shadow government can just murder important people with no repercussions, they can jail whoever they want, and they commit plenty of warcrimes that are never recorded in such detail as the American ones. China has internment camps for millions on it's soil as part of a campaign of cultural genocide, and it's government can also just disappear people if it wants to. America is in no way perfect, or even objectively good or anything like that. But it is relatively better, just a little bit.
- velp 3y agoI think it's moreso the assumption/collective perception that foreign totalitarian governments are more nefarious in their actions towards their own people. Whether or not that's true is a different argument.
- sdfghswe 3y agoAnd in both cases you'll be right most of the times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristic
- hendersoon 3y ago"The Government's investigation has revealed that JPMorgan knowingly, recklessly, and unlawfully provided and pulled the levers through which Epstein's recruiters and victims were paid and was indispensable to the operation and concealment of the Epstein trafficking enterprise." The Virgin Islands government alleges JPMC /knew/ Epstein was abusing underage girls. That seems just stupendously unlikely.
- marpstar 3y agoWhy? The guy was flying household names around on his own plane. He had connections, why wouldn't the people in the sector in which he "worked" be in that network?
- nabla9 3y agoThat's not what they allege. The Virgin Islands is alleging that the JP Morgan benefited financially from Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation and _failed in its duty to report suspicious financial activity._
- engineer_22 3y agoJPMorgan is a faceless organization. Does DOJ target the company or the people within the company?
- kelseyfrog 3y agoCan someone help me understand, why does this keep happening?
- IKLOL 3y ago[dead]
- willcipriano 3y ago[flagged]
- kelseyfrog 3y agoI'm trying to be curious. Please, can someone answer in a way that doesn't get them downvoted/flagged?
- intalentive 3y agoWhy does what keep happening, exactly?
- ilrwbwrkhv 3y agoDid Larry Page sleep with kids? Probably not. Did Larry Page know that Jeffrey Epstein is involved in shady stuff? Probably yes.
- leobg 3y agoWell, he’s not a “specist“.
- tzfld 3y agoInterestingly, I can't get information about this whole case in general in bing chat. Keep getting answers like; "Sorry! That’s on me, I can’t give a response to that right now. What else can I help you with?"
