So bring back optimization! This is a solved problem, companies just don't want to invest the time and effort to optimize and compress their assets and code. It used to be something that they knew was a necessity, but rapid gains in storage allowed a temporary period in which they could ignore those things. Now reality has caught back up with them. This is not a customer problem, (though it will certainly be treated as one) but rather a shoddy corporation problem.
