Pimoroni Badger W display server
- 1bent 3y agoI hadn't heard of this gizmo, seems to be a small e-ink display on an rpi: https://learn.pimoroni.com/article/getting-started-with-badger-2040 https://learn.pimoroni.com/article/getting-started-with-badg...
- SloopJon 3y agoI bought a Pico H and a Pimoroni Display Pack with the idea of making a custom clock for a gift. I didn't realize that some of Pimoroni's displays already have an RP2040 chip onboard, or in this case an entire Pico W. I don't really need wireless, but the real-time clock would be handy.
- toyg 3y agoNice! I have the original Badger, will be tempted to upgrade. I am definitely getting one of those new LiPo batteries anyway, AAs are too bulky to carry around.
- ajsnigrutin 3y agoWow, nice gadget, i wanna buy this, i hope it's cheap! > Out of stock yeah...
- pmontra 3y agoI wonder if all these companies realize how many money they are leaving on the table and why they apparently do little about it. I mean all the production chain.
- HeyLaughingBoy 3y agoLilygo has a bunch of ESP32-based devices with a built in OLED or eInk display. They're generaly easy to find on Amazon.
- FullyFunctional 3y agoAnother approach would be to set up a VNC viewer on the badge. Then to update with new contents you'd connect to the shared VNC server and do whatever you'd want to update (you could in theory even run a browser, but the resolution is a big on the small side).
- stavros 3y agoThis is cool, but wouldn't it be better to run it the other way around? Have the Badger connect to the server every so often, so you can poll for an image and run the Badger on a battery? This is what I did for the LilyGo T5 when I made the Timeframe, a display to show me my meetings for the day: https://www.stavros.io/posts/making-the-timeframe/ https://www.stavros.io/posts/making-the-timeframe/
- ulrischa 3y agoAlso nice. But the solution from me can be better triggered and integrated in smart home settings (i.e. Node-Red)
- ulrischa 3y agoAnother funny idea: you could make a single party and hand out some devices with my script running on it. Then you can send a message to the Person you are interested in. Kind of the old phone call thing...
