Many of the things that companies would have created themselves can will now just be generated by AI and can be maintained by inexperienced/cheaper developers). The same has happened with open source. Aside from FAANG and startups in silicon valley, many smaller companies just use open source projects (which took a lot more skill to create) and hire cheaper developers to make additions (which requires less skill). It's hard for me to ever support a software developer union when so many in the community encouraged the demise and devaluing of our craft. It's one of the reasons I finally got out of software development a few years ago after being in it for 2 decades.
