I’m just amazed that cancel culture even made it as a core terminology in contemporary US politics. It’s just people saying deliberately offensive things in public, and then complaining that other people who disagree exist and that such people are refusing to be associated with them or their business(es). Real cases where people lose their jobs or reputation because of trial by publicity is actually quite rare.
- coldtea 3y agoYeah, it's not anybody lost their job or faced an angry internet mob because they said something totally acceptible 20 years ago before a climate of hysteria and extemist views prevailed...
- rTX5CMRXIfFG 3y agoAgree. Before the internet 20 years ago circa 2016, people simply forgot about the terrible things that public figures said in public.
- coldtea 3y agoBefore the internet people also were more tolerant (or had less of an outlet to exercize out their petty morality plays and power trips by getting people harassed or fired) of what private people said or what someone wrote on their blog, etc. And the lunatics haven't taken over the asylum yet.
