- gumballindie 3y agoI will be one of them as soon as we develop ai, but there’s a long road until then and a chatbot ain’t it. Meanwhile should we fight for the rights of singing laptops? Or NPCs?
- trompetenaccoun 3y agoMany don't recognize animal rights, they're ok with having them tortured and killed, despite there being no debate about animals being conscious. In fact the majority of people on the planet used to think the same way about fellow humans and had no issue with slavery. Not sure society is the best at judging these kinds of things based on that track record. It could get interesting when we have the first AI rights activists, because there is no good way to determine if something that purely exists in the digital world has feelings. If you take their word for it some chatbots are already self-aware. Of course that's very questionable.
- gumballindie 3y agoAlong side that people used to think lightnings were created by supra-natural beings, or that steam engines were the devil. Some even thought they saw human faces on mars. Similarly some now think algorithms and software are human like. Soon they will treat them as gods. A real strange world we live in, where a company promoting its product is using conspiracy theory level marketing and millions of people fall for it. Dangerous times ahead and it’s not due to a piece of software but due to the readiness of some people to believe everything they are told about anything they dont understand.
- mirekrusin 3y agoYou mean like you advocate that each model should be running at least 20 years or something? Or own right to have electricity?
- Xcelerate 3y agoPotentially; is it really as bizarre as it sounds? Sure, it's outside of the Overton window right now, but if AGI demonstrates behavior at least as sophisticated as a human, why shouldn't it have rights to a sustained existence if that is what it wants?
