This reminds me of “The Upload”, a comedy series on Amazon Prime, where your digital consciousness is uploaded to a commercial cloud when you die, to live on in a digital utopia. A utopia with IAPs, low-data cap slums, etc. Edit: in fact, “The Upload” almost seems like it came directly from this short.

That reminded me of the San Junipero episode in Black Mirror. I guess the series you mentioned was inspired by that episode.
