If MS really wanted to make the app better you could stop drawing active elements in the Title bar.
Title bar should have window controls on the right (like the ones you copied from NeXT), and because you're windows, the app icon on the left. Centre justified there should be the application name.

Putting controls in the title bar is such an aggressively hostile thing to do, I'm really surprised that the trend has gained wider adoption. It's even worse than making the window frames nearly nonexistent.
