Ton of great stuff here. Interesting note on the socket count.
> Oddly, despite higher inter-socket speeds, the number of total sockets supported is down from 8 to 2. This was likely done to speed time to market as it only affects a tiny portion of the market that AMD doesn’t compete in anyways.
Further indicators towards the death of coherency. The future, I think, is multi-socket yes, but non-coherent, is chips with more network like connection to each other.
AMD's whole brilliance was realizing throughput is throughput. The 2p config just cuts each core's PCIe count in half & using those lanes (64 of 128) for core-to-core. Where-as Intel has been fighting uphill to keep vastly vastly more throughput between sockets, AMD just said, nah, we have a limited GBps & you can use it as you will. That throughput is hard! Coherency is harder still!
> Across both dies, the 66-cores plus I/O sections are lashed together on a 7x14 mesh interconnect network.
Wowwwww. Look at that core layout. Dammnnnn.
