Minimum wage is necessary where labor is at a severe disadvantage. The number of employers in a location is often pretty limited, and if an unskilled worker doesn't take the deal they're offered, and if they can't find a better deal in a timely manner they face poverty. A minimum wage means these small number of employers can't dragoon workers into the lowest possible wage above starvation. While it does mean some people will get payed nothing instead of something, it's often easier to deal with a small number of unemployed people who can easily be supported by a large population where everyone else is getting payed decently.
But there are plenty of other circumstances where employment isn't a race to the bottom. Most gig workers are in a position where they could easily do something else if the compensation was inadequate, including getting a minimum wage non-gig job, and most people in the society are not relying on gig jobs as their sole source of income. Further there is no social welfare where society at large supports people who can't get gig jobs. Under such circumstances, what is the argument for the person who would be rendered unemployed by a minimum wage to want a minimum wage?
