I incurred in that mistake once and never again will I use a non-Gmail address for personal Google products. That exact same thing happened to me >10 years ago and I got cut off from almost everything I had. Today I find it annoying to have two address (domain.com and gmail.com) but such is life. Never mix them. EDIT: As for support, this is Google. So.. this thread is your best option.
