Interesting, I thought this was just a glitch of me. I think I have the same issue. Whereas other people seem to hear each other well in busy environments, it takes me much effort to focus and retrieve the person talking from all the other noise. The volume levels are fine, I'm just having trouble focusing and extracting the specific person I want to hear. Now I also have some issue that eustachian tube gets a bit clogged up or something, because I react more than usual to small air particles. I can usually fix that by blowing while keeping my nose and mouth shut - but the issue above still remains in some form.
