I understand the laws of physics are in effect, but the big thing keeping me from even remotely considering a foldable is the durability of the internal screen. The newer Galaxy Fold's have some sort of plastic/glass composite, but it still scratches super easily, and it's not serviceable at all.
- AshamedCaptain 3y ago> Google says the phone has IPX8 dust and water resistance, which means it's not dust-resistant at all That should tell you anything you need to know about its durability.
- alexchantavy 3y agoHad a Samsung zflip 4 where the screen stopped working after 1 month and their customer service gave me the run around and tried to claim I damaged it - thank god I took pictures documenting the whole process. I probably wasted a work week’s worth of time on emails and phone calls related to this nonsense. Will never consider Samsung again. They do this weird 3rd party support partnership thing with asurion where they’ll tell you to go to asurion to get the phone fixed but then refuse to honor the diagnostics performed by asurion because they’re a 3rd party, which makes for an awful customer experience. For a $1000 phone you would expect much better support. All this to say I don’t have confidence in the foldable screen tech, and I have even less confidence with any company that has 3rd party support arrangements with asurion (which google does too)
- unclad5968 3y agoI had the zflip 3. Loved that thing. No problems for a year+. Traded it in for the flip 4 which died in two months. Not sure if I was just unlucky but I'm done with foldable for the foreseeable future.
- petkeviciuz 3y agoNot having problems for a year is pretty low bar for any phone these days.
- fomine3 3y agoMy Fold3 had problem twice for screen protector peeled off. After it peeled off, screen start broke after a few months. My insurance plan fixed it for cheap. There are no other problems, dust and water isn't a problem as IP rating. I'll never leave foldable tablet (until AR glass become a thing), but also I'll never consider foldables without great insurance plan.
