I think people unfairly poke fun at the Dropbox skepticism on HN.
As a linux user, you can already build such a system yourself quite trivially by getting an FTP account, mounting it locally with curlftpfs, and then using SVN or CVS on the mounted filesystem.
- weird-eye-issue 3y agoIs this a joke...? God I hope so. Absolutely clueless
- vlunkr 3y agoYes, it's a reference to the original HN thread.
- dharmab 3y agoYou and I have very different definitions of trivial
- askafriend 3y agoNobody cares about linux users. If you can't deliver the value of what you described to normal people, it just doesn't matter. That's why Dropbox is a $7B+ company today - because they were able to commercialize something that previously was only accessible to a few people who knew weird computer commands. To the normal person none of this is "quite trivial". EDIT: I missed the joke. I get it now. Well-played OP.

- Freedom2 3y agoI have a few qualms with your solution...
