It has always surprised me that Norway leads the way in electric vehicles, for two reasons: they are a massive oil & gas exporter, and it gets really cold - where electric vehicles lose significant range as they struggle to keep the battery warm.

Quoting https://www.vox.com/22227063/norway-oil-gas-climate-change https://www.vox.com/22227063/norway-oil-gas-climate-change > The big irony here is that Norway is a fairly large fossil-fuel producer, but we use relatively few fossil fuels directly in our energy use. Nearly all of our electricity has for a long time come from hydropower. In most years, we even export quite a lot of renewable electricity to our neighbors. > The only place where fossil fuels are used to directly produce energy is to run the platforms offshore. They use gas to run the turbines to get the energy needed for oil and gas production. Most of people in Norway don't live where it's all that cold. The Gulf Stream helps keep things warm.
