Someone stole my car last year - luckily, I had an AirTag stashed in a side compartment. I tracked it down to the other side of the city and stole it back from the parking lot of the shopping center while the thieves were busy shopping. Or shoplifting, more likely, given their treatment of my car. It’s not illegal to take something that’s yours back from someone who’s stolen it.
- iudqnolq 4y agoWhether it's illegal or not depends on the specifics. for ex if you'd gone into their driveway to take it back that could be trespassing. regardless that sounds dangerous. I guess if my car was worth a lot more I might take that kind of risk.
- mock-possum 3y agooh it was definitely dangerous, we rolled up to the parking lot ready to fight... and I am incredibly relieved that it wasn't necessary. my buddy was like "let's wait for them to come out of the store!" - like no dude, I just want my car back. It's not about what it's worth - although obviously, I'm attached to my car, I've had it a while and I'm fond of it - it's about what's right. My car belongs to me. Someone took it from me. I have to take it back. That's just how it works for me. Otherwise, what good is property or privacy? What good are boundaries that you don't enforce?
