One concern I have more and more as devices reduce in size is their dependence on connectivity. Much of the world is not connected. Much of MY world is not connected. So many AI devices are really nothing more than devices to connect to data centers (e.g. smart phones/watches) and other than being able to download content while online that might be used offline, the devices really are not usable for AI offline. AI seems to depend more and more on the data center (?), so we'll be intelligent when connected and dumb when not.
Or am I wrong? Will future devices hold entire large language models within, not needing connectivity?
