- cbsmith 3y agoYeah, the headline even more "that's not news" when you're talking about modems. ;-)
- JohnFen 3y agoThat was the protocol I thought I was going to read a rant about by the title, and I was all ready to agree wholeheartedly with the author. But it was a different protocol that I have no experience with. It might be a crock of shit, too, but it's hard to tell from that rant. Interestingly, the original modem AT protocol was reasonable. Then as modems became more featureful, the protocol kept getting extended, and extended, and then I stopped using POTS modems and thought I'd never have to deal with it again. Until I built my own cellphone discovered that not only does it live on, but it's been extended even more.
- bombcar 3y agoI’ve always wondered if a cable/DSL modem is an actual AT-style modem somewhere in there, but I’ve been way too scared to ask.
- JohnFen 3y agoSome things are best left a mystery. Ignorance really can be bliss.
- userbinator 3y agoNot sure about DSL but cable is DOCSIS which resembles Ethernet more than telephony.
