I don't care about the jobs - automation has always made the job market better overall.
But I do care about being treated disrespectfully by companies, and I consider chatbots to be the ultimate in disrespect. Making me pretend to talk to someone to take part in an interaction is extremely offensive.
I'm mostly fine with ordering kiosks, like at McDonalds. But I draw the line at having to talk to myself. I will not use any restaurant that implements this.
- unmystic 3y agoIMO, the disrespectful part is they want to get rid of human workers and tell them in their faces that they just want to help their workers by making their tasks easier
- version_five 3y agoI agree messaging to workers about this kind of thing is always disrespectful (like telling them it will free up their time for more important things). But I also think it's disrespectful to keep someone employed at a task that could be easily automated. That said, I don't think customer service is easily automated. It's more attempts to train the customer to accept being treated like shit.
- sys_64738 3y agoI totally agree with this which is why I never talk to automated voice systems on the phone. I only press numbers and won't verbally communicate with a computer.
