AI cameras are being set up to catch drivers throwing trash out of their cars
- MontyCarloHall 3y agoThis is the sort of automated surveillance/enforcement I can get behind. Civil liberties are reserved for people who behave civilly.
- 1827163 3y agoThere might be unintended consequences resulting from perfect enforcement of the law. Knowing that you are under constant surveillance and one infraction could result in a fine might create a backlash of sorts, to say the least.
- lp0_on_fire 3y agowhat's the saying? "the average person commits three felonies per day without even knowing it"? So while I despise litterbugs this won't stop at people tossing trash out the window.
- throwbadubadu 3y agoWhat are these felonies? Anyway, how can one not know that throwing trash somewhere is one? It just needs common sense, and some kind of social behaviour. Nobody likes trash, and someone needs to pick it up again and put it away.. (Living near some regularly trashed streets and also nature, this is the one thing that really annoys me so much about humans.. while being usually "libertarian" that is the one thing where I'd just want Singaporian standards world wide :D Noone needs to litter, and noone can say he didn't know.. It is 99% just pure egoism and laziness.)
- local_crmdgeon 3y agoI hate literring so much. Would be supportive of anything to curb it, up to and including Judge Dredd.
- djohnston 3y agoI used to be wary of the growing surveillance state. But as I get older I see that the moral fabric of our society has decayed to the point you can’t expect people to behave decently. Dog shit left on the side walk, trash left on bus seats, revving stupid cars at 3AM, selfish ignorant behaviour abounds. I welcome absolute policing of these behaviours until people stop acting like animals.
- sixbrx 3y agoI hope they catch the pickup truck drivers who use their truck bed as a trash bin and then let the trash fly out randomly while they're driving (who could have known that would happen, right?). Probably not a problem in the UK but it drives me crazy how often I see it in the US.
