If all companies stopped paying dividends (for example if they were somehow banned) I wonder what effect this would have on state and federal tax revenue. Would taxes have to be raised to cover the lost revenue? As a shareholder in most cases I would much prefer that companies uses the profits for acquisitions or share buybacks instead of paying dividends.
