Wireless spectrum is a resource that doesn't have obvious ways it can managed without regulation. Without the "gateway" of accessing spectrum, there are lots of ways to do equivalent things (send voice and data) outside of monopoly (oligopoly, regulated, whatever you call it) control.

Currently companies and governments decide what appstore one can use, what application/software one can install and use, what websites one can visit, which 3-letter agency receives the data that one doesn't consent to share...
