In contrast why can we allow companies and governments to control access to smart phones and related services? Why should XXX technology be treated differently?
Asking this without necessarily taking sides pro nor contra.
- version_five 4y agoWireless spectrum is a resource that doesn't have obvious ways it can managed without regulation. Without the "gateway" of accessing spectrum, there are lots of ways to do equivalent things (send voice and data) outside of monopoly (oligopoly, regulated, whatever you call it) control.
- not_your_vase 3y agoSure. But what about services that are very attached to smartphones, and not just phones in general? Currently companies and governments decide what appstore one can use, what application/software one can install and use, what websites one can visit, which 3-letter agency receives the data that one doesn't consent to share...
