RHEL itself is deprecated for desktop/workstation use. I last used RHEL in that capacity 10 years ago and even then it was apparent that this was a niche it wasn't well suited for.
- slondr 3y agoWill this affect Fedora or other red hat universe distros?
- George83728 3y agoIt wouldn't really surprise me if Fedora followed suite soon, but I have no specific information about that. Hopefully OpenSUSE Tumbleweed keeps X, I haven't heard any indication to the contrary.
- emrvb 3y agoI'm not entirely sure, but I'm under the impression that my tumbleweed installation lost X11 months ago and is Wayland only now.
- George83728 3y agoX is still in Tumbleweed, maybe it's not the default anymore but it's still here.
- itsmartapuntocm 3y agoFedora defaulted to Wayland quite a while ago. But Fedora doesn’t necessarily always follow Red Hat. RHEL deprecated and removed btrfs support, while Fedora now uses it by default.
- slondr 3y ago> RHEL deprecated and removed btrfs support Wait, what?? Is that true?
- em-bee 3y agoyes, had to stop using CentOS and switch to Debian for my servers because of that
- itsmartapuntocm 3y agoWas deprecated in 7 and removed in 8.
- sprash 3y agoThe target audience for RHEL desktop/workstation use is government employees. Those people are not supposed to use the computer beyond a narrow scope of tasks. Creativity, self-responsibility, individuality and out-of-the-box thinking is discouraged. Wayland is perfectly suited for that.
