This is one of those causation vs correlation 101 things. Who lives within 2 miles of their workplace? Typically either young active people, rich people, or single types who would prefer a small place with a city lifestyle.
Who has the longest commutes? Poor people, older people with children who need bigger places, or people who for whatever reason don't like being near the hustle and bustle of the cities.
Big surprise, lots of confounding variables in these two very different self selected groups. Turns out older/poorer people with lots of obligations tend to have sleep problems.

- brailsafe 3y agoIt depends on the city and the person and the job who has the longest commutes. My friends all live pretty close by on the edge of where city becomes more suburban, but along the train line, and in most cases share and apartment with someone and we're all between late-twenties and almost 40. Almost nobody commutes into the downtown anymore though, they're commuting by various means to either a fixed workplace in another area, or disparate workplaces wherever the job is that day. But their home base is where people are. The poorest people are on the street or in an old place, or a roommate situation.
