That wouldn't have prevented the OPs burnout/depression. While I agree that the amount of working hours should be limited, balance is for all health related measures crucial. So, I believe reducing the daily hours is more beneficial than reducing the number of days with equivalent longer hours and potentially accumulating stress and tiredness.
