Yeah the desaturated text on HN is confusing. It is for example, applied to flagged posts, so I first associated the lower contrast with being flagged, but then I noticed it is also applied to self posts like Ask HN or Show HN, and I kept wondering why are all these people getting flagged? Turns out it is just the way it is. Not to mention it's also hard to read.
